Modern Refuge has carved out a unique space in the vibrant music scene of Connecticut and has quickly become one of the most exciting, must-see live acts around. The four-piece band cleverly combines folk warmth with psych-rock sprawl. They are known for their tightly wound indie grooves that rise into orchestral build-ups, harking back to the high-energy acts of the 70s.

Steven began his musical journey at the ripe old age of 6. From there he was always involved in everything musical from school band to private instruction to playing local parties for friends. At age 15, Steven moved from CT. to San Francisco, where he jumped head first into the study of jazz. By the time Steven was 23, he was one of the top call bassists in the San Francisco Bay Area, including 6 years teaching at the acclaimed Stanford Jazz Workshop. Steven has played with many jazz greats including Kenny Burrell, Billy Higgins, and Vince Wallace. Now residing in Austin, TX, Steven remains an in demand bassist/composer and band leader. We are fifth n Main, a band based in Norwalk. Fifth N Main is a multi genre group that centers on hard rock and classic rock.

Frank Mastrone grew up in Monroe, CT and earned a BFA from Central CT State University. He began singing professionally at JP’s Good Time Emporium in Hartford as a “Singing Waiter.” (really…)

A few years after moving to NY (and becoming a heck of a waiter) Frank was asked to join the first national tour of CATS, traveling from San Francisco to Boston. Two years later he was the last person hired for the original cast of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, making his Broadway debut in what would turn out to be the longest running show in Broadway history.

Frank soon took to the road again in the role of Jean Val Jean in Les Miserables, eventually joining the NY Company.

Off-Broadway was next with TAPESTRY: The Music of Carol King; but the show was short lived and Frank joined a tour of the pop-opera EVITA, as the Tango singer Augustine Magaldi, performing in sixty one cities in forty-nine weeks!

Frank again landed in New York in BIG: The Musical, based on the hit film. Than; JEKYL & HYDE for a nearly four year run and the chance to understudy and perform the title role dozens of times!

One fascinating experience was touring in the hit show MAMMA MIA from coast to coast for over a year “in a mini-van with his wife and infant triplet daughters!” Other Broadway include SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, CATS, and most recently another six year run in PHANTOM.

Frank has performed in London where he made his Royal Albert Hall debut in the concert version of the Benny Annderson/Blorn Ulvaeus (the ABBA guys) musical KRISTINA (live CD available on DECCA).

Other concert appearances include SOUTH PACIFIC (Great performances) and SHOWBOAT at Carnegie Hall, CAMELOT with the NY Philharmonic (Live from Lincoln Center), The Ballroom, Sam’s, The Sands Hotel (Atlantic City), and with the Wallingford Symphony Orchestra.

Cory Phillips is unique natural: a sensual, soulful singer of rare touch, quality, wisdom, talent, range, and skill - with acoustic guitar prowess only rivaled by his memorable voice. His music aches with the rootsy vintage r&b of Stax and Motown and the hot southern soul of Nashville and Memphis, and elegantly pivots to classic country rock, 70s disco, and 80s pop seamlessly. His original solid gold classics are spun with gold and poetry throughout. His newest studio album, SEXTHIRSTYLOVEHUNGER, is a dirty bouquet of groove, funk, and soul that hit #28 on the Billboard’s New R&B Albums chart. An authentic and travelled musicman, he is simply the best male singer out on the road today. Cory tours tirelessly throughout the USA with over 200 shows a year. In 2026, he embarks on an extensive New England tour.

Alex Slomka is a trombonist located in the NYC Metropolitan Area whose work spans big band, jazz, and contemporary ensemble performance.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in trombone performance from the Crane School of Music and a master’s degree in jazz performance from the Purchase Conservatory of Music, where he honed his voice as a performer through intensive ensemble work, improvisation, and collaboration with artists across genres.
Alex has performed with numerous notable groups including The Birdland Big Band and Latin Jazz Big Band, The Stan Reuben Orchestra, and the Dan Pugach Big Band with Nicole Zuraitis, and CeCe Winans.
In addition to a busy performing career, he has recorded with many prominent artists including Debbie Wileman, Anna Wise, The Lemon Twigs, and Harmonic Aggression. Currently a member of the Especially Everyone Ensemble, Alex is known for his versatility, musicality, and collaborative approach, and remains an active performer in the greater New York City music scene.

Born as the house band for a local jam session, Sugar House has been perfecting their recipe of funk, soul, and rock since 2023. With a deep catalogue spanning from Stevie Wonder to Led Zeppelin to The Allman Brothers to Chris Stapleton, Sugar House infuses their signature flavor into every performance.

With roots in the Danbury area, Sugar House has emerged into the greater CT/NY scene, playing festivals, local venues, and private events - all while regularly delivering as a backing band at the Sugar Hollow Taproom's biweekly jam sessions.
